Tooth Removal

Tooth removal, or extraction, is a procedure employed when a tooth is damaged beyond repair or causing significant dental issues. We prioritize your comfort and safety, utilizing advanced techniques to ensure a smooth and minimally invasive removal process.

Do I Need Tooth Extraction?

With any extraction it is important to carefully examine the tooth or teeth being treated. We will perform a thorough visual examination and use x-ray imaging to determine the condition of the tooth and surrounding tissues. Such an assessment is vital not only to ensure a smooth, trouble-free extraction, but also serves as support to your dentist’s recommendations for your future replacement tooth treatments.

What to Expect from Tooth Extraction Treatment

We understand that you may be experiencing anxiety about your tooth extraction. For anxious patients we offer the option of conscious sedation in addition to completely numbing the treatment area. This can give you a more relaxed treatment experience.

We are experienced in helping nervous patients to be at ease. Our sedation options, combined with our calming chair side manner and relaxed tone, allow patients to successfully complete treatments which they may have previously thought were more difficult for them to achieve.

Most tooth extractions are a straightforward procedure, followed by at-home care that includes rest, gentle care of the extraction site, and short-term restrictions regarding what you eat and drink. Your dentist will discuss your extraction treatment with you, explaining what to expect during and after your extraction, as well as your aftercare.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

Your tooth extraction may involve what are commonly referred to as “wisdom” teeth. Wisdom teeth are located at the very back of your tooth row and often never break through the gum tissue, so you may be unaware they exist. This circumstance underlines the importance of regular dental exams, where X-rays will reveal the location and development of your wisdom teeth.

Unfortunately, wisdom teeth may abruptly make themselves known when they are invaded by infection and an abscess, with its associated pain, creates the need for an extraction. Your dentist’s examination will reveal the presence and the exact size and location of your wisdom tooth, the extent of any infection, and any other factors which might affect a future extraction.

tooth removal QUESTIONS YOU MAY have

FAQ’s

There are several reasons a tooth might need extraction, including severe decay, advanced gum disease, impaction, overcrowding, or damage beyond repair. Your dentist will evaluate the tooth’s condition and recommend removal if it’s the best option for your oral health.

At The Dental Practice UK, we prioritise patient comfort. Before the extraction, we’ll administer a local anaesthetic to numb the area, ensuring you feel minimal discomfort during the procedure. Some soreness or swelling might occur afterward, but this can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.

Recovery duration can vary based on the complexity of the extraction. Simple extractions may only require a couple of days for healing, while surgical extractions, like impacted wisdom teeth removal, might take up to a week or more. Following post-extraction care instructions will expedite the healing process.

After the procedure, you might experience mild swelling and discomfort, which is normal. It’s essential to avoid strenuous activity, hot beverages, and refrain from using straws or smoking for the first 24 hours. You’ll also be given specific instructions on how to care for the extraction site to prevent complications.

There are several options available for replacing an extracted tooth, including dental implants, bridges, or dentures. Your dentist will discuss the best solution tailored to your needs, ensuring both functionality and aesthetics are restored.

£85 for a check-up which lasts 3 minutes seems rather excessive. No Xrays, despite being told when booking that the check-up included Xrays. I understand that this was after about 6 months since my last check-up (when Xrays were taken), but then, it should be reflected in the price. Disappointed by the extremely rushed approach.

After reluctantly having to acknowledge my superbly made denture of 20 years old was knackered I reluctantly and with some trepidation visited the Dental Practice-was treated with empathy and warmth and after 2 visits was fitted with a brand new denture that took no time to wear in & which fits and feels like my own teeth again - With a thrown in offer of after care! what more do you want-They did exactly what it said on the tin! COULD NOT BE HAPPIER! Off To Have A Chomping Evening On My Favourite Toffees Again!
