Our expert dental hygienists are dedicated to preserving your smile by offering tailored preventive care and meticulous dental cleaning. From personalised advice on at-home routines to advanced in-house treatments, we’re committed to ensuring your teeth and gums remain strong, vibrant, and free from any potential concerns.

KEEPING A HEALTHY MOUTH

Not only does this help you to keep your teeth and means you need to have less dental treatment, it also helps to ensure that your mouth and teeth will function properly, enabling you to eat, speak, and socialise without disease, discomfort or embarrassment, and will contribute to and protect your overall health.

There are two main areas of preventive dentistry. Firstly there are the things that you do, what we call your lifestyle choices. Then there are the things that we can do, the clinical processes.

By far the most important and effective area of preventive dentistry relates to what you do every day. Your diet, your tooth-brushing habits, and the other things you can do such as flossing, using inter-dental cleaning aids, and mouth rinsing. These are far more important than anything else. You will find a full description of these and the actions you need to take in the Oral Health section of this site.

Accumulations of dental plaque in your mouth can have effects on your heart and other organs, and will complicate conditions such as Diabetes. So any advice we give you will take into account your general health, your age, and any medical conditions you may have. In the surgery we can carry out primary preventive measures such as applying fissure sealants and applying fluoride varnishes to teeth. These processes are not just for children. In fact many elderly people will benefit from fluoride applications if the gums start to recede or your mouth becomes dry.

Before we do any of these things, we will carry out a risk analysis relating to your oral health, and then discuss with you a programme of preventive dentistry designed around your needs and what you want out of it. We will also try to ensure that treatments we provide for you do not harm your future dental health. The margins of fillings will be contoured to the tooth natural shape. The join between crowns and your own teeth will be smooth, dentures will be designed to minimise damage to any other teeth.

In this way we hope to be able to prevent as much dental disease as we can, and also to prevent future deterioration in your oral health, and in your ability to eat, smile, talk, and socialise without discomfort or embarrassment.

AIRFLOW

Airflow tooth polishing is a cosmetic dental procedure that cleans stains from your teeth beautifully without damaging your teeth. The Airflow polishing system uses a precise combination of a very mild abrasive powder and air within a water jet to gently clean tooth enamel in a way that is refreshing and painless. Stubborn stains and discoloration from foods, beverages, and smoking can disappear, along with accumulated plaque, in a single treatment

Prior to any Airflow polishing treatment a careful examination will be performed by your dentist to check for tartar (hardened plaque). For the best results, it is recommended to have tartar deposits removed by our dental hygienists before your Airflow polishing. Completely safe and non-damaging to tooth enamel, Airflow tooth polishing thoroughly cleans your teeth and leaves your mouth wonderfully fresh.

hygiene QUESTIONS YOU MAY have

FAQ’s

Maintaining regular dental hygiene appointments is key to a healthy smile. We recommend visiting us every six months to ensure thorough cleanings, plaque removal, and early detection of any potential issues. However, your individual needs may vary, and our experts will help determine the ideal frequency based on your oral health.

Deep cleanings, also known as scaling and root planing, are crucial for managing gum disease. This intensive treatment goes beyond routine cleanings to remove plaque and tartar from below the gumline and smooth the tooth roots. It promotes healing and prevents further progression of gum issues, ultimately preserving your oral health.

Absolutely! Dental hygiene is important for individuals of all ages. Our skilled hygienists are adept at providing gentle and educational cleanings for children, teaching them proper oral care techniques in a friendly and comfortable environment.

While dental hygiene appointments focus primarily on cleaning and maintaining your teeth and gums, they can contribute to a brighter smile by removing surface stains. For more noticeable teeth whitening, we offer specialised treatments that can be discussed during your visit.

During your initial appointment, our hygienist will conduct a thorough examination of your oral health, including an assessment of your gums, teeth, and overall hygiene routine. Based on this evaluation, a personalized cleaning plan will be recommended, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance on how to enhance your at-home care routine.

I can’t thank and praise Andrew and Graeme enough .. a year ago they changed my life around going from someone who couldn’t laugh or smile without covering their mouth and not being able to get to close to people in case my breath was bad.. I was ashamed and embarrassed having not been to a dentist in 35 years. I was petrified from a young age of dentists. I couldn’t even sit in ‘the chair’just to talk about my teeth before I met these two brilliant men. I went somewhere else the previous month before who charged a lot of money, removed all of my teeth and gave me the biggest most badly fitting temporary dentures, i looked ridiculous.. I started to wish I had never had started the process I was devasted. They said then that my gums were too difficult to make dentures for and they couldn’t do anything for me !!!! They did however refer me to The Dental Practice uk and in turn Graeme and Andrew, the best thing they could have done. They instantly made me relaxed and completely confident in what they said they could do, they had me in the palm of their hands..3 weeks later and cheaper than the first dentist’s I had everything they promised the most beautiful delicate dentures that suited my small face.I do use fixadent because of my flat palate and receding gums but I apply at 6.30 am and work split shifts till9.30 pm without once having to re apply. These 2 men are really passionate about what they do and it shows,I have my smile and confidence back and I can’t thank them enough. Sorry it’s taken a year to write the review ! Thank you for everything Lisa

£85 for a check-up which lasts 3 minutes seems rather excessive. No Xrays, despite being told when booking that the check-up included Xrays. I understand that this was after about 6 months since my last check-up (when Xrays were taken), but then, it should be reflected in the price. Disappointed by the extremely rushed approach.
